Old Fashioned meatloaf using oats. Most meatloaf recipes today use crackers or soaked bread. I wanted a recipe using the classic ingredients. You can't go serving this dish with buttery creamed potatoes and fresh green beans.
My mom got me this pan from Rachel Ray. The grease gets separated from the meatloaf so you do not end up with a greasy meatloaf. It really works well.
Meatloaf
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper (any color will work based on your taste preferences)
1 lightly beaten egg
3/4 cup Heinz Chili Sauce
3/4 cup quick cooking oats
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp mustard
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix ground beef, salt, pepper, onion, bell pepper, egg, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce and oats together well and place in baking dish.
Bake for 45 minutes to an hour.
Directions for Meatloaf Gravy
Mix ketchup, brown sugar and mustard then spread on loaf after cooking for 30 minutes.
Make sure you save some for serving. It is delicious.
I sauteed the onion and bell pepper before mixing in meatloaf mixture. I do not like crunch in my meatloaf. It ruins it for me. You can choose either raw or sauteed according to your own taste.
This recipe is so delicious.
